Mercedes-Benz is smack in the middle of a product offensive, and we now know how much two of its upcoming weapons—the all-new 2015 C-class sedan and GLA-class small crossover—will cost.

With the CLA-class now occupying the bottom rung of the Benz ladder, the C-class no longer has to serve as the brand's price leader. Having a littler brother also freed it up to become larger and more luxurious, and MSRPs are commensurately higher than before. For its part, Mercedes claims that far higher levels of standard equipment mean that the cost hasn't increased much at all. The C300 and C400 4MATIC models both go on sale at the end of August, while the rear-drive C300—the C400 won't be available here with RWD—will arrive in the first quarter of next year. Here's the breakdown:

2015 Mercedes-Benz C300 Sedan: $39,325, includes turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine (241 hp, 273 lb-ft), seven-speed automatic, dual-zone automatic climate control, Bluetooth phone integration and audio streaming, push-button ignition, automatic headlamps, seven-inch display with central knob and touch-pad controls, power tilt and telescope steering column, rain-sensing wipers, power-folding side mirrors, MB-Tex faux-leather upholstery, aluminum interior trim, and more.

2015 Mercedes-Benz C300 4MATIC Sedan: $41,325, includes all of the above plus all-wheel drive.

2015 Mercedes-Benz C400 4MATIC Sedan: $49,515, includes all of the above plus twin-turbo 3.0-liter V-6 (329 hp, 354 lb-ft), seven-speed automatic, four-piston fixed front brake calipers, Premium package (heated front seats, SiriusXM satellite radio, Burmester premium audio, LED headlamps, and proximity entry), and Sport package (open-pore matte-black ash wood interior trim, 18-inch AMG wheels, sport suspension, AMG body kit, black headliner, sport seats, flat-bottom steering wheel, cross-drilled front brake rotors, aluminum pedal caps, AMG floor mats, and stitched MB-Tex dashboard cover).

C300 buyers will need to spend $2700 for the Premium pack and $2500 for the Sport bundle, although they also have the option of the Luxury package, which costs $650 and brings unique 17-inch wheels, a comfort suspension, a three-pointed-star hood ornament, wood interior trim, and the MB-Tex–lined dash.

Extracost options for all C-classes include any paint color other than basic white or black ($720), a Lighting package ($800; adaptive high beams and dynamic headlamps), the Multimedia package ($2690; navigation, 10-gigabyte hard-drive storage, 8.4-inch high-res screen, CD/DVD player, SD slot, SiriusXM Traffic and Weather, and backup camera), and the fragrance diffuser as seen on the S-class ($350). Also on offer: Airmatic air springs ($1190), an Interior package ($2300; leather upholstery, ventilated seats, ambient lighting, illuminated doorsills, and power and memory passenger's seat), the Driver Assistance pack ($2800; Distronic Plus automatic cruise control with auto braking, active blind-spot and lane-keeping assists, as well as Pre-Safe Plus rear-end collision protection, steering assist, and Brake Assist Plus with cross-traffic detection), and a package that bundles hands-free trunk access with a power-closing trunklid ($250).

The 2014 C-class started with the rear-drive $36,725 C250 Sport and its 201-hp 1.8-liter turbo four. The $40,325 C300 4MATIC used a 3.5-liter V-6 good for 248 horsepower, while the $43,025 rear-wheel-drive C350 Sport topped the lineup with a 302-horse V-6. For competitive comparison, the 2015 BMW 3-series lineup begins at $33,700 for the 180-hp 320i. The more directly comparable 3-series models—the 240-hp 328i and the 300-hp 335i—start at $38,350 and $44,450, respectively, with rear-wheel drive. All-wheel drive costs an additional $2000.

Mercedes also released pricing on the GLA250 and GLA45 AMG sans in-depth options information. Both the 208-hp GLA250 4MATIC and the 355-hp GLA45 AMG 4MATIC scoot onto our shores in September, and they'll cost $34,225 and $49,225. The front-drive GLA250 will run $32,225 when it arrives early next year. All use a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic. The CLA-class sedan—with which the GLA shares its platform and powertrain lineup—costs $1400 less in basic guise and with 4MATIC; it's just $850 less with the AMG treatment.

Late-model used-car prices dipped below $23,000 in July for the first time this year, settling at $22,919. That's a 0.78 percent drop from June, and it's the third month in a row that prices have dropped.

The Hyundai Sonata Hybrid's price fell the most in July, dropping 3.2 percent ($653) to $19,511. The only other alternative-fuel car in the top 10 list is the Chevrolet Volt range-extended electric car, and all of the other models are from luxury brands.

Meanwhile, average asking prices for the Nissan Quest minivan increased the most in July, up 1.3 percent ($290) to $22,372. A 0.8 percent difference separated the top and bottom cars on each of the top 10 lists this month, but overall price increases were more modest than the price declines.

The charts detail used cars from the 2011 to 2013 model years with the biggest price drops and gains. To be eligible for the lists, a model had to have at least 250 cars in Cars.com's national inventory.

Aluminum-Bodied 2015 Ford F-150 To Cost More Than Steel Model ...

The aluminum-bodied 2015 Ford F-150 is expected to be more fuel-efficient than the full-size pickup truck with a steel body that it replaces.

But that efficiency comes at a price. Riding on a traditional steel chassis, the aluminum body of the new F-150 will cut weight by 700 pounds or more, improving gas mileage ratings.

But since aluminum is also more expensive than steel, the new F-150's pricing has been the subject of nearly as much speculation as its fuel economy.

That speculation can end now, because some of the numbers are now in.

F-150 prices will increase by $395 to $3,615, depending on the model, The Detroit News reports.

The smallest increase applies to the base XL and XLT models, which will start at $26,615 and $31,890, respectively. These models represent 60 to 70 percent of current F-150 sales, Ford says.

The more luxurious Lariat model will start at $39,880--$895 more than last year--while the price of the King Ranch model will increase by $3,615, to $49,460.

As with the current version, the Platinum will be the top 2015 F-150 model. It will start at $52,155, an increase of $3,055.

While the aluminum body likely drove some of the cost increases, the truck's higher level of standard equipment should be considered as well.

The XL and XLT models, for example, get center-stack information screens, while the King Ranch and Platinum get standard LED headlights, a cargo tie-down system, and other features.

The prices of certain models undercut the added cost for aluminum of $600 per truck estimated by research firm UBS, which recently conducted a study showing that buyers are willing to pay an average premium of $3,138 for a new truck.

While buyers will benefit from fuel economy gains--especially if they choose the new 2.7-liter turbocharged EcoBoost V-6--the 2015 pickup's EPA ratings haven't been released yet.

Top 10 Best-Selling Cars: July 2014 - KickingTires

Today's sales figures continue to pave the road for a strong 2014. As the sales year steams into its second half, we've seen new optimism from analysts and automakers that expect total new-car sales this year to land close to where they were in the heyday years of the early 2000s.

Related: Top 10 Best-Selling Cars: June 2014

With the largest seven automakers reporting numbers so far today, industry sales increased 9 percent over July 2013. Honda was the odd one out (down 3.9 percent), but Hyundai-Kia, Toyota and recall-beset GM reported single-digit sales gains, while Chrysler, Ford, Nissan and Toyota reported double-digit gains. All of that is compared against a pretty good month a year ago for the industry, too.

Thanks to big gains from the Sentra and Versa, Nissan sales gained 11.4 percent. Small-car sales overall were mixed: Shoppers had more interest in the Ford Focus (up 5.7 percent) but not the recall-besieged Chevrolet Cruze (down 17.8 percent), the Honda Civic (down 7.3 percent) or the Hyundai Elantra (down 7.9 percent).

Popular SUVs, meanwhile, had a more consistent trend. Ford's Escape and Explorer both had double-digit sales gains, while the Toyota RAV4 gained 37.1 percent to land among the top 10 monthly sellers for the first time since March 2010. Chrysler's Jeep division, meanwhile, had a banner month. Shoppers drove Wrangler sales up 13.8 percent to the nameplate's best July ever. And it looks like the new Cherokee should have no trouble breaking 100,000 sales — or 150,000, even — in its first full year on the market. With 95,259 sales through July, Jeep's new smaller SUV is the brand's third best-seller by fewer than 10,000 units.

SUV popularity helped propel GM sales up 9.4 percent, continuing months of sales gains despite the automaker's unprecedented recalls in 2014. In a company statement, sales chief Kurt McNeil attributed the popularity to "American families feel[ing] better about the economy than they have in a long time."

Indeed, consumer confidence soared to a nearly seven-year high in July; through the first seven months of 2014, it's averaged higher than any single month in 2013, despite a few other softening economic indicators of late. Meanwhile, new-car prices continue to ebb. The average new car sold for $32,301 in early July, according to CNW Research. That's actually down 1.1 percent ($375) versus July 2013.
